Notify Property Management if…
- There’s a leak in your home or in a common area.
- Any of your personal information has changed. Complete and return our community census. This will help us communicate with you when needed.
- There are any issues with pests in your home or common area as a result of the change of season.
- There are any potholes in driveways or parking lots that may have developed during the winter.
- You have returned to your primary address for the spring and summer, and require any billing address updates.
Spring Flowers and Decorations
Don’t forget to review your community’s policies regarding plants, flowers, bird feeders, etc.. Some community associations have specific policies regarding gardening, decorations, and plants in common areas. For example, some communities restrict bird feeders because along with the birds, they attract unwanted pests and bird droppings.
Spring To-Do List for Long Island Homeowners and Shareholders
- Clean and replace dryer vents (if applicable).
- Change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors (if applicable).
- Replace any expired or damaged fire extinguishers in your home.
- Purge your home of any unwanted or unnecessary items whether you are cleaning, moving, or downsizing.
- Go green in your home with actionable solutions such as switching to less harsh cleaning supplies or switching to LED lighting!
- Dispose of expired pantry goods and replace them as needed.
- Clean the forgotten items around your home such as baseboards, ceiling fans, walls, and blinds.
- Shake out the toaster and give your oven, microwave, and air fryer a good cleaning.
- If you have not already done so, switch to eco-friendly light bulbs.
Spring Safety Tips for Your Home
- When the ground is wet from spring showers (or sprinklers), use caution in driveways, streets, and parking lots within your community association.
- If your Cooperative, Condominium, or Homeowner’s Association has a community pool, get ready for pool season with a review of our pool etiquette and safety tips.
- Check your home for any electrical hazards. For example, check for frayed or exposed wires on electrical appliances and gadgets such as toasters, vacuums, lighting, phone chargers, etc… These items should be replaced if they are damaged as they can be fire hazards.
- Plan ahead with the summer to-do list.
- Keep plants that are poisonous to pets out of your home, and prevent pets from ingesting plants that can be harmful.
Get Involved in Your Community Association and Beyond
- Find out when your annual meeting will take place and plan to attend. Additionally, review additional ways you can become more involved in your co-op, condo, or HOA.
- If your community has amenities like a pool or tennis court, review the policies and hours that homeowners, residents, and guests can use them. Find out if you need to acquire passes for guests beforehand.
