  1. Report Gym Repairs to Management
One of the benefits of living in a community that is professionally managed, is that you can contact management staff to facilitate repairs to common areas. If your community has a property manager, you can inform management and your community staff (i.e.,- your superintendent) if your community gym requires any repairs. For example, report any broken fans, lights, mirrors, thermostats, workout machines, etc. Additionally, notify management if any cleaning supplies need replacement, or if any equipment is missing.
  2. Review All Gym Policies Before Use.
Many rules that have been set in place are done so for safety, or to ensure the quality of the space is upheld for all. Therefore, it is important to review the set guidelines beforehand. Additionally, make sure that all guests who use the gym (if permitted) follow proper gym etiquette and policies.
  3. Leave The Gym How You Found It
After your workout, discard all empty plastic water bottles or paper towels used to clean equipment. Additionally, return all workout equipment such as dumbbells, yoga mats, and kettlebells to their racks and storage areas. Doing so keeps the gym tidy for all to use, but also prevents tripping hazards. Whether your community has hired cleaning staff or not, everyone should do their part to keep the space clean so that everyone can enjoy the amenity.
  4. Avoid Dropping or Throwing Gym Equipment
Not only is this a safety hazard to yourself and others, but dropping or throwing weights can damage floors, mats, mirrors, and workout equipment. Prevent avoidable repairs (and costs) by taking care of equipment and the surrounding area.
  5. Do Not Borrow or Remove Gym Equipment From the Gym
The community gym and its equipment are meant to be shared by all residents. Therefore, remember to only use the free weights, mats, etc. while in the common area.
  6. Keep Your Gym Private and Secure
If your community’s gym requires a key fob or special key for entry, close or lock the door behind you when you leave. This prevents any lurking from strangers outside of the community.

Respect Your Community’s Gym to Help Maintain Its Value

While upkeep is inevitable for any home or community, everyone can do their part to avoid unnecessary costs, repairs, and maintenance. When all residents contribute to keeping their common areas in great shape, it ensures the longevity of those spaces for all to enjoy.

By reporting repairs to management, using the space properly, and following all guidelines you can positively contribute to the preservation, value, and enjoyment of the community gym for yourself and others. Take advantage of your amenities, but respect them because ultimately, they are an extension of your home.
