- Social Clubs and Committees in Your Co-op, Condo, or HOA
If you are a new or current homeowner, there are many ways to get involved in your community association. One way is through social groups. For example, your community might have a club that hosts and plans events for your community. - Sports Leagues Within Your Community Association
If your community has amenities such as tennis, pickleball, golf, bocce, shuffleboard, etc., there may also be leagues (ran and organized by neighbors) available in your co-op, condo, or HOA community. - Event Apps
Event apps such as Meetup and Eventbrite are great for finding groups of like-minded people based on interests or age groups and upcoming events. They are great for keeping tabs on upcoming local events and event organizers. - Facebook Groups and Events
Search by hobbies and areas of interest. For example, if you love live music or local dining there are local groups for it. There, neighbors might post local events and suggestions.
Once you find events, groups, and businesses that you would like to follow, “join” or “follow” so that upcoming events show up on your feed. Also, you can search the “events” tabs on social media for upcoming happenings. - Local Businesses, Bars, and Restaurants
Research and follow local bar(s) and restaurant(s) on social media pages for live music and events around Long Island. Events might include bingo, trivia, karaoke, etc. - Town/Municipality Websites
This is the main hub for all things pertaining to your town, which will typically include town events such as fall festivals, movie nights, and more. - Your Local Library
Libraries across Nassau County, NY and Suffolk County, NY host everything from fitness classes and kids workshops to business-related workshops. Enroll in email updates or their catalog if applicable. - Your Town or City’s Chamber of Commerce
Check for events for networking, career fairs, art exhibits, live music, street fairs, car shows, carnivals, and panel discussions. - Local Beaches and Parks
Look for banners at your local park or beach displaying upcoming fairs, concerts, outdoor movie nights, etc. - Local Arts Councils
Subscribe or become a member of nearby arts councils for upcoming festivals, gallery openings, and more. - Gyms and Athletic Clubs
Many local gyms and athletic clubs offer fitness classes and sports leagues. - Triathlons, Running, Swimming, and Biking Events
There are many triathlons across Long Island throughout the year. Don’t skip the Polar Bear Plunge in Long Beach (held every year in January). - JCCs & YMCAs
Programs at local JCCs and YMCAS include but are not limited to swimming, pickleball, canasta and mahjong, card games, support groups, day trips, lectures, etc. - Crafting, and Art Supplies Stores & Organizations
Look for specialty crafting classes and workshops (for all ages and levels) from local craft and art supply shops (i.e.– Michaels and Art League).
There are also many local DIY workshops and paint nights available across Long Island, Brooklyn, and Queens. - Local Farms
Find local produce festivals (especially in summer and fall), petting zoos, live music, and more at your local farm, or farm stand. - Animal Shelters and Local Charities
If you love animals or support local causes, volunteer, or attend an upcoming event for a local charity of your choice. - Vineyards and Breweries
Visit a local winery or brewery (various across Long Island, but there are many on the North Fork and out East) and beer tastings, live music, etc. - Local Radio Stations
Radio stations will announce upcoming events and sometimes post them on the station’s website. - Local Theaters and Music Venues
Long Island has many quality theaters and live music venues all across Nassau and Suffolk County. - Museums, Aquariums, Planetariums, and Historical Sites
There are many local museums, historical sites, and aquariums/fish hatcheries offering upcoming events open to visitors.
