When to Notify Property Management

The change of season is a great time to check your home for any summer-related repairs or adjustments. Notify management (and/or your superintendent if applicable) if…

  • There are pests such as bees or termites in your Cooperative, Condominium, or H.O.A as a result of the change of season.
  • You are experiencing any issues with your air conditioning in your unit (consult your governing documents for the owner’s responsibility) or in common areas.

Get Your Home Ready for the Summer

Optimize your co-op, condo, or H.O.A for the hotter months ahead.

  • Check your windows for broken screens or cracks that can bring pests or heat into your home.
  • Make sure your windows are closed when you are running air conditioning in your home. This will help to keep your home cooler, especially on extremely hot days.
  • To get the best performance out of your air conditioner, change your air conditioning filter once a month during the summer months. Additionally, make sure the vents are closed on your air conditioning for maximum efficiency.
  • If you have a window A/C unit, make sure that no curtains or furniture are blocking it from letting the cold air circulate throughout your home.
  • For best refrigeration results in the summer months, run your fridge at number seven.

Energy Saving Tip!

Set a timer on your window A/C to have it start up slightly before you return home from work. This will save you money and energy since the air conditioning will not be running all day while you are out of your house.

Summer Safety Tips for You and Your Home

The summer months bring heat, outdoor activities, and sometimes hurricanes to New York. Prepare your household and your family for these events.

  • Don’t forget proper pool etiquette when enjoying your community association’s pool.
  • Make sure that you and your family are prepared in the event of a heatwave during the summer months.
  • Be sure to plan ahead for hurricane season which starts in June and ends in November for the Atlantic. It is always good to plan ahead in the event that a Hurricane reaches New York.
  • Stay hydrated and use proper sun protection while enjoying the outdoors or the community pool.
  • Brush up on summer safety for your pets.
